DAR CAFTAN SIZE & MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Measure Carefully. Choose with Confidence.

A well-chosen size begins with accurate body measurements. Use this guide to compare bust, waist, and hip measurements, understand garment ease, and prepare the additional details that may be needed for a caftan, djellaba, or eligible custom-measurement order.

Before You Measure

For the most useful result, measure your body rather than a garment and record the figures exactly as taken.

Use a Soft Tape

Use a flexible measuring tape that sits smoothly against the body. Keep it level and comfortably fitted without pulling it tight or allowing it to hang loose.

Wear Light Clothing

Measure over fitted, lightweight clothing or the undergarments you expect to wear. Bulky layers can add centimetres and lead to an unsuitable size choice.

Stand Naturally

Keep your feet close together, shoulders relaxed, and posture natural. Do not hold your breath or change your stance to produce a smaller measurement.

Measure Twice

Repeat each measurement and use one unit throughout. A second person is especially helpful for shoulder width, sleeve length, and overall garment length.

Women’s Standard Body-Size Reference

These ranges refer to body measurements, not the finished dimensions of a garment. Compare all three measurements and check the individual product description before ordering.

Please note: This chart is an approximate body-size reference. It does not state the flat width or finished circumference of every caftan or djellaba. Garment ease, cut, sleeve shape, lining, and intended silhouette can differ by design. Where a product page gives more specific sizing information, follow that information and contact Dar Caftan if anything is unclear.

How to Choose Your Standard Size

01 — Record Your Body Measurements

Measure your bust, natural waist, and hips using the instructions below. Write the figures down immediately and include the unit used.

02 — Compare All Three Areas

Do not select a size from the bust alone. Compare bust, waist, and hips because the most suitable size must provide enough room across every relevant area of the design.

03 — Read the Product Description

Look for notes about the silhouette, sleeve shape, belt, fastening, and length. A relaxed djellaba and a shaped or belted caftan may not feel the same even when they share a size label.

04 — Ask When Measurements Split Sizes

If your bust, waist, and hips fall into different rows, or if one measurement is close to a boundary, contact us before ordering. Include the product link and all three figures so the design can be considered as a whole.

Do Not Add Ease to Your Numbers

Send the measurements as they are. Do not add centimetres because you want a loose fit. Instead, describe the fit you prefer and tell us whether you plan to wear another garment underneath. Ease is the additional room built into the finished garment and must be considered separately from body measurements.

How to Take Each Measurement

Keep the tape flat and untwisted. The measuring method matters as much as the number itself.

Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the bust. Pass the tape under the arms and keep it horizontal across the back. Stand naturally and make sure the tape does not compress the body.

Natural Waist

Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Bend gently to one side if you need help locating the natural crease. Do not pull the tape tight.

Hips and Seat

Stand with your feet close together and measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat. Check in a mirror that the tape remains level all the way around.

Upper Arm

With the arm relaxed, measure around its fullest part. This can be important for fitted sleeves, gathered cuffs, layered outfits, and customers who prefer additional arm room.

Shoulder Width

Measure across the back from one shoulder point to the other, following the natural line where a garment shoulder seam would sit. Ask another person to take this measurement where possible.

Sleeve Length

Measure from the shoulder point to the preferred cuff position with the arm relaxed. If a design has a shaped, split, flared, or gathered sleeve, additional measurements may be requested.

Wrist or Cuff

Measure around the wrist or the position where the cuff should sit. The required room depends on whether the sleeve is open, fitted, elasticated, buttoned, or decorative.

Garment Length and Height

Measure from the high shoulder point down to the desired hem. Stand straight and consider the shoes planned for the occasion. Provide your full height as a useful cross-check, but do not use height alone to choose the finished length.

Caftan and Djellaba Fit Considerations

Moroccan Caftans

A caftan may be straight, shaped, layered, belted, or decorated in ways that affect how it sits through the bust, waist, hips, and sleeves. When a belt is included or shown, your body measurements still determine the room needed underneath it. Check whether the product is intended to fall close to the body or retain a looser ceremonial line.

For full-length styles, confirm the hem position with the footwear you intend to wear. Decorative borders and motifs may limit how much a finished garment can be shortened without changing the design.

Women’s Moroccan Djellabas

Djellabas often have a relaxed body, but shoulder width, upper-arm room, sleeve shape, and length still affect comfort and appearance. A hood also changes the upper-back construction, while cuffs, flared sleeves, and split openings can require different wrist or sleeve measurements.

If another outfit will be worn underneath, mention it before the size or custom specification is confirmed. Do not add the allowance yourself; describe the intended layering and preferred looseness.

Custom Measurements

Custom measurements are available only when shown as a product option or confirmed by Dar Caftan for the selected design.

What to Send

Include the product link, bust, waist, hips, shoulder width, sleeve length, preferred garment length, height, delivery country, intended footwear, and any fit or layering preference relevant to the order.

What Happens Next

We may request another measurement or ask you to repeat an inconsistent figure. The accepted measurements, price, selected adjustments, and estimated preparation time must be confirmed before production begins.

Your Responsibility

Customers are responsible for supplying accurate measurements. Dar Caftan is responsible for preparing the accepted specification, subject to reasonable production tolerances. A contact-form request alone is not acceptance.

Common Measuring Mistakes

Pulling the Tape Tight

A tight tape produces a smaller number and does not represent the room your body needs. The tape should touch the body without pressing into it.

Adding Extra Centimetres

Added room can be counted twice if it is included in both your measurement and the garment allowance. Supply actual body measurements and describe the fit you want.

Measuring Over Bulky Clothes

Heavy layers distort bust, waist, hip, and arm measurements. Use light clothing and explain separately if the final garment will be worn over another outfit.

Mixing Centimetres and Inches

Choose one unit and label it clearly. Do not convert several values separately unless necessary, as rounding can introduce avoidable inconsistencies.

Guessing Sleeve or Garment Length

Height does not determine every proportion. Measure the intended sleeve and garment length directly and account for the shoes planned for the occasion.

Using an Old Measurement

Measure again for the current order. Body measurements, preferred fit, footwear, and planned layering may have changed since a previous purchase.

Size Guide Questions

Are these garment measurements?

No. The chart shows approximate body-measurement ranges. Finished garment dimensions include design-specific ease and may vary by silhouette.

What if I am between two sizes?

Contact us with your bust, waist, hips, and the product link. The best choice depends on which measurement falls outside a range and how the selected garment is cut.

Should I choose a larger size for a loose fit?

Not automatically. The product may already include a relaxed silhouette. Use actual measurements, read the product details, and tell us the amount of looseness or layering you prefer.

Can I use the size of a garment I already own?

You may use it as an additional reference, but it does not replace body measurements. Different designs and fabrics can produce a different fit from the same flat garment width.

Is custom measurement available for every product?

No. It is available only when shown as a product option or confirmed for the selected design. Additional design changes are reviewed separately.

What if I need the garment for a specific date?

Contact us before ordering with the product, date, and delivery country. Preparation and shipping are separate, and an arrival date is not guaranteed unless expressly confirmed.

Still Unsure About Your Size?

Send the product link together with your bust, waist, hips, height, and any relevant fit preference. We will review the information available for that design and tell you whether a standard size or an eligible custom-measurement option should be considered.
